Gardening with Mrs Swanson

At lunchtimes Mrs Swanson goes out to the children's Veggie Gardens and helps the children water and look after the plants.  There are heaps of things growing!  Take a look at the photographs the Room 2 children took on Tuesday lunchtime (27th September).

Laughter Club!!!

Room 2 enjoyed  3 sessions of 'Laughter Yoga' as part of their Modular Learning.  This exciting form of exercise was  first started by a Doctor from India, who firmly believed that  'laughter is the best medicine'.  From small beginnings in India this exercise form has now spread to many countries around the world.
'Ho Ho Ha Ha Ha' - a stretching and breathing exercise.

'Babble Gabble' - meet and laugh.

'Silent Laughter' - excellent for the stomach muscles.

'Milk Shake Laughter' - Stretching and Toning.

The Elephant by Angus

The Elephant I drew is just a plain elephant, but coloured in different colours because we didn't have any grey!!  I learnt to draw elephants in Room 3 with Mrs Robinson and Mrs Burton.  I feel really good because I knew how to do it.

Room 2 Print Making with Mrs Robinson

Room 2 were desperate to share their print making skills.  As part of the modular learning programme the children spent several sessions with Mrs Robinson learning all about print making.  To link with our HoT Learning topic of The Environment the children made Pukeko prints.  Print making is a slow process and quite tricky but the end results are definitely worth it.  The prints are absolutely awesome and will soon be on display in our classroom.  Enjoy the photographs which were all taken by the children.

Room 2 Cooking with Mrs Swanson!!!

This week we made cakes and jam with Mrs Swanson from Room 1. This was part of our Modular Learning and we went to the Learning Centre to do it.

We learnt that we had to wash our hands before we started cooking because if you don't do that you can spread germs.  We didn't want to make people sick!

Mrs Swanson read the recipes to us so we knew what to do.  We had to follow the instructions carefully.

We enjoyed mixing the cake and spreading the icing on the yummy chocolate cake.  We saved a piece for Miss Clark, she thought it was really tasty!!!

When we made jam Mrs Swanson let us have a turn at mashing the strawberries.  It looked gross but it smelt nice.  We are looking forward to tasting it.

(This blog posting was written by the children in Room 2 - Miss Clark only did the typing.  All photos were taken by the children in Room 2).

Module Units for Learning

This week we started our learning Modules.  Modules give children a greater opportunity to experience and learn skills in a more practical 'hands on' approach.  Over the next few weeks the children will also rotate around Classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 so will experience working with different teachers and will benefit from their different talents and skills.  It's also a great way for the teachers to get to know more of the children in the school.
In Room 2 we are focusing on sculpture and modelling techniques.  So far we have made paper sculptures and model clay kiwis.  We've had a lot of great, messy fun!
Keep watching over the next few weeks to find out what else the Room 2 children learn.
